Free Tax Assistance - VITA lab

At Brigham Young University, IRS certified volunteers can assist individual taxpayers in many tax-related areas and activities. Their services include filing individual Federal and state returns using e-file, explaining educational credits and deductions, and answering FAFSA tax return questions. The VITA program provides free tax preparation services to:

  • People who generally make an annual income of $53,000 or less
  • Persons with disabilities
  • The elderly
  • Limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns

It runs from the beginning of February to the end of March. Taxpayers can sign up for appointments online here starting in February. They can also find information about the lab at vita.byu.edu. About 90% of the taxpayers VITA serves are students, and each year VITA helps around 2,000 taxpayers.
